I am overwhelmed by the responses I have received from you. I thank you all on your greetings. The blog was conceived with the notion of getting ideas from you on what could be done to improve and better market Kanpur city. The reason being, that we get so bogged down by mundane things in life that sometimes we miss the bigger picture. Of course, the planners have a lot of things lined up for the city - a better water supply and sewerage system, housing colonies, better roads, garbage collection system, electricity sub-stations, transformers, conductors and the works. But, we wanted to have the citizen's opinion on the work that has been done and that needs to be done. Yours can just be a random idea, a bolt from the blue - but if you jump and say "Eureka" - thats good enough for us. Let your imagination go wild. Together we can make this city a better place to live in.

Initially i was of the thought that this is just another administrative histronic, but i must say that i am very impressed by your effort and the fact that you are actually responding to the comments.
Sir, due to the forthcoming visit of the Hon'ble President only the route she will be travelling is being spruced up. Dont you think we citizens also deserve the same roads, pavements, better lighting and traffic.
Something needs to be done about the roads especially in Dada nagar industrial area...they are in shambles.

I agree with your views. The roads can be improved and maintained periodically only if the Nagar Nigam has adequate funds for the purpose. The house tax and other taxes are being revised and we expect that the revised rates of taxation will increase the coffers of Nagar Nigam to upto Rs 60 cr. In Maharashtra, the local bodies have a budget of more than a 100 cr. I would be instructing the NN officials to increase their tax collection drive.

My problem is that, despite of police verification for Kanpur way back in Feb-Mar 2008, the police verification of my home town (i.e. Chitrakut) has not been completed till date. The work is going on here despite of your orders- "not to demolish green parks for overhead tanks".

It is heartening to see your comments.Your problems, especially on roads have been taken note of. Roads are being constructed but all works cannot be taken up simultaneously, so people have to be patient. KDA, Nagar Nigam and PWD have started work on a lot of projects. As far as the GT road story goes, the work done by the conractor was not up to the mark. He has been black-listed and we are still waiting for funds and nod from Government of India to go ahead with the remaining work. I visit south city regularly. Our endeavour is to take up work there as well. Some roads are being made by KDA but probably they are not sufficient to take care of the needs of the city, so a project has been put forward to the State Government for allocating funds to these as well.

As you may be knowing there is a sewer line being put through Om purwa area.It has made the whole road a cloud of Dust ,4 citizens have already lost there lives,as the road has been reduced to half with thousands of tempo overtaking each other on it..Cant the work of rebuilding the road take place as soon as the sewer on a particular lenght has been put ? But when we see the reality, the only roads that gets approved for the process are the ones where Member of Legislative Assembly lives. But things better should be seen from trasparency angel. I am not going to praise you not going to pull you for the condition, which is there in Kanpur. From everything Infrastucture to Medical to Administration. You are already aware of the things and you understand better. Honestly I do not have much hope, but just by seeing your comments and response on this blog there is a ray of hope which has been enlightened about the well being of Kanpur. Its my birth place and I miss it wherever I will go, either US / UK outside UP :).

Thanks for sharing your views on the blog.
The sewer lines that are being laid are a part of the plan to connect the whole of Kanpur through sewer network. It is a matter of shame that even after so many years, we still dont have a sewer network that connects the whole of Kanpur. The problem with laying sewer lines is that it takes some time for the earth to settle after the line has been laid. If a road is constructed immediately after, it will collapse and hence the delay in re-constructing the road.
As far as road construction is concerned, some major roads covering the length and breadth of Kanpur have been taken up. Lanes and bye-lanes have also been taken up in small numbers by Nagar Nigam. Let us hope that the recovery efforts of Nagar Nigam bear fruit so that they have enough funds to construct all lanes and bye-lanes.
And yes, there are a lot of criticisms - some positive and some negative. It is your decision to sift the good from the bad.

I want to talk about a news published in Dainik Jagran dated april 12. It says that DM has issued an order to capture any personal vehicle for election purpose. The police has now started snatching vehicle's documents and driving license at their will. Such vehicle owners have been then instructed to handover their vehicle at Kanpur Polytechnic on April 25.
Does it mean a citizen should not take out his car until elections are over? or this news has been misinterpret...I don't know but what I do know that many families have stopped using cars. This is really a weird situation.
I am not able to believe such an order is issued by DM.

People are placing there concerns over here and they had been answered, by you, a good thing indeed. But the need is to not only have a written answer but something more concrete being in action to be done.
I would like to discuss a common concern like Electricity supply. I heard the KESA has been changed to some private organisation . .Is that true? If it is so, I am happy. To my happyness, a website of kanpur electricity mentioned your name as one of the memeber of Board. Depending on the utilization or consumtion of electricity people should have to pay there Bill, which rarely people do, at least from the area where i belongs to - Chamanganj :), when I last visited i saw installation of hard wire pillars for the purpose, but later on i heard that electric thiefs has created nuisance out of that as well and they put illegal wires across it. Which I guess is a commong trend every where in Kanpur. We can deal with this situation, just need to deal with more appropirately.
I have few suggesstion for it, will discuss further if you are interested next time in your blog.
I appreciate your efforts to do good to the people. Because even if you think to do good, god will reward you wishes for it.

nice initiative.
1. i stay at IIT, Kanpur and my chief area of frequency is between IIT and Rawatpur junction. while efforts were put in to control the traffic by making a divider on the road till mar 08, once the financial year (07-08) finished, so did the work. are there any plans to complete the divider construction till IIT and beyond? i understand that this project might come under NHAI and not directly under you.
2. the traffic on this road is very adversely affected by 6 seater tempos or vikrams. i understand that they provide a valuable public service but i am sure that they are not exempt from following traffic rules. they stop for long durations at major junctions for filling up all passengers and as a result the traffic at these junctions gets jammed. the traffic policemen just stand and watch with amusement maybe because slow traffic means lesser accidents for them and lesser paperwork to file. as far as i know one cannot park a vehicle within 50 mtrs of a junction and this rule is flaunted in broad daylight by these people, right in front of policemen and nothing is done. kindly explain.
3. the road from ghantaghar till railway station is six lane road of which one lane each (both sides) is always encroached upon by shipkeepers. one lane is occupied by stray cattle whose number on this road must be definitely in 4 figures if not more. the remaining lane has to be shared by the rest of the traffic especially rickshaws, so the net average speeds on this 6 lane road is never greater than 10kmph. i am sure you must have visited the road and seen these problems first hand. what are you planning to do about this?

Though I am not physically present in my Kanpur (chamanganj) but is in touch on daily basis, because my beloved father is staying there still.
Ok. How about giving some inputs on the malpracitses in my area, pertaining to either electricity or water.
People draw pipe line, illegally to their home from the Govt. installed submersible pumps in the areas, without any fear of being caught.
I have a live example but will report further on assurance that something will happen.
Just want to know who is responsible for this, the person who did this or the administration who let him do this.

Dear all,
Thanks for all your support during the election process but I had been happier had Kanpurites come out in large numbers and voted. Well, I guess we have to wait for 5 more years for Kanpurites to come out in large numbers and vote.
Some vehicles were acquired during elections but none of them were private vehicles. They are our last resort but things did not go to that extent. We acquired only commercial vehicles and left out all private ones.
Electricity situation in the whole state is bad and Kanpur cant be an exception to that. However, efforts to bring in a input based franchisee is going on. We expect the franchisee to be in place by June. Hopefully the quality of electricity supply would rise. Till the, we are trying our best to minimise faults and repair them as fast as possible.
A lot of problems were traffic-centric. As far as road from Kidwainagar to Y-Block is concerned, I think you are talking about the area surrounding Transport Nagar. A lot of vehicles need repair, especially trucks and the shops there cater to this need. To take care of this problem, we are planning alternate Transport Nagar site. Hopefully, this will take care of the residents' woes permanently.
The road that ends short of IIT will be taken up in the next year. The Central Government has already been requested to release funds on this road. We plan to take this four lane road beyond IIT.
Regular meetings with Tempo association are done to ensure that they ply according to set norms. The last two months have witneessed gross shortage of police personnel. Once they are back after completing their election duty, regulation on tempo will be strictly monitored.
Removal of encroachment is a chronic problem. The encroachment from Ghantaghar to Parade has been removed umpteen number of times but Kanpurites dont seem to have learnt their lesson. Another encroachment drive will be undertaken soon after elections.

You must be very aware of the fact, how the garbage is transported through out the city.
THE GARBAGE TRUCKS ARE OPEN IN DESIGN, AND THE GARBAGE FLIES OUT DURING ITS TRANSPORTATION, HENCE
1) SPREADING GARBAGE THROUGHOUT ITS ROUTE ON THE ROADS, WHICH KNN HAS TO CLEAN AGAIN ( DOUBLE WORK)
2) SPREADS HARMFUL GERMS THROUGHOUT ITS ROUTES.
3) SOMETIMES, THE GARBAGE ALSO COMES OUT AND GETS OVER THE VEHICLES RIGHT BEHIND THEM.
It is a request to kindly improve the system of garbage collection and transportation.
We all are aware that Kanpur is one of the most dirtiest city in the World. I would appreciate if ACTION IS TAKEN, and KNN makes some headway. There have been examples like the city of Surat, which turned from being the most dirty city in the India to the one of the cleanest. Lets follow a good example.

However, my intention is not to bother you with more complaints or seek explanations for the pathetic road conditions in the locality, the callous attitude of the police personnels in dealing with increasing cases of eve-teasing or increasing chain pulling incidents.
I just can't help thinking that
-why does a road project that has already been passed and the funds allocated gets stopped just after the election spree is over?
- why does the roads,for which the residents are charged road tax, gets worn out just weeks after they are made and no-one is there to check the quality of materials used and "black list" the contractor?
- why can't we have a fixed time for the electricity roasting? (It is indeed foolish to expect 24 hrs supply , that it is, but setting out the time can be a relief.)
You may well choose not to answer any of these questions but by posing these questions to you it is my intention not to draw your attention to the fact that instead of going about big projects and hatching plans the best strategy would be to follow up what is already going on and what has already been accomplished.
I am sure that the power vested in you by the state it is in your capability to keep a track of ongoing projects, their current status and the misdoings being carried out by the deployed personnels.
We all look up to you that you will be the change that this city needs in order to make this a better place.

Yesterday again there was a talk about the frightening topic, "School Fee Hike. Two months ago too there were two articles in about months back in news papers which would drag the attention of the Public. One was a sweetener and other one was definitely bitter. Reduction of fuel prices though expected still gotten smile, joy and happiness in the public face. This happiness has been shattered and over shadowed by the hike in the School Fees. To add to the public woos some of the statements like “in case parents are in capable to afford this hike; then they should not be sending their children to private schools”. This very statement creates many questions; first, what prompts the parent feel that private schools are better? Why can’t government own public schools are better? Though there would be audits to Schools’ books of account, does any one in the government look into the details and number of times the hikes are carried out during the year and also in addition to school fees how much other additional expenses/charges are levied to the parents? Its recession and every one of us are getting impacted by this in some form or other; but schools have added to the woos of the middle class in particular by hiking their fees to their own limits and they have kept on doing every year, every year during the beginning of the session schools charge additional thousands in the form Building fund besides normal hike in the fee structure. Over and above the fees, there expenses on the Books and other school material which always raises alarm in the mind of parents for the amount charged to procure them at the beginning of the year and they some time continue to demand more stating price rise of the schools. The gist of these examples is to prompt and request our government to consider all these points and still if they feel they should release aids to these schools out of the public money. A salaried person has always thought that since he/she is paying such a hefty tax, post that government would help them to live the life humanly but this is yet to happen. It’s a sincere request to the government that they should intervene in these maters positively, while parents would always be ready to pay a price to get the best of education for their children however there has to be some scale with authorities till what extent price should be paid. In case still government feels that the schools demands are realistic and logical then they should help the citizens by some form, so that brunt is felt to minimum

I am victim of regular fee hike of dps kalyanpur. I admited my child last year .At the time of admission school deposited Rs.12000 for admission fee without giving the quarterly fee structure.
After one month school gave fee book withthe hike of Rs.1000.00 quar. from previous year which is a big jolt for us .Again this year they do the same thing after purchasing books and dress by parents they gave thefeesbook with the hike of Rs.1200.00 to 2000.00 classwise .
Detail of fees yearwise are -
2007-08 -Rs.5100.oo per Quarter
2008-09 -Rs.6200.00 per Quarter
2009-10 -Rs.7200.oo per Quarter up to class 8. For class 11 Rs.8100.00

i am glad to see your effort to improve kanpur. Infact it can be done with the effort of the public as well as from you. but we need some more effort and determination to make it better as kanpur was known in earlier days.
I have got a small complain bt a big problem in the roads of kanpur that is the stray animals like cows n dogs roaming freely in the roads. last year my hand got fractured due to an accident with a bull. And when i was in the hospital i heard many others with the same case, and few days before a dog jumped in front of a man who was driving a scooter, n he was fainted n lost a lot of blood anyhow we took him to the hospital and called his family members.
so i would like you to work on it and make a solution for these animals so that we can reduce the road accidents as well as in some extent we can reduce the traffic problem too n this can be helpull and benificial to the traffic police,the public to the nagar nigam too for cleanliness

Just wanted to let you know that a beautiful ring road has been built around Bithoor,starting from the Mandhana road chungi to Druv Tilla.This has suddenly found encroachments of little temples and mosques on government land.These should be checked immediately as per Supreme court orders and not allowed to mushroom.These are all commercial schemes and must be stopped.

This will also help everyone to bring forward some of the grievance about negligence of authorities & normal citizens towards their city.
I wanted to inform you about the Aman Patel Complex in Vishnupuri, off Company Bagh Circle. The two buildings use generators for close to 10hrs/day minimum. They are not enclosed with Acoustic Enclosures as per the guidelines of the Central Pollution Control Board. This is creating a lot of pollution, evident from the smoke & dangerously high noise levels.
Due to this residents of the neighboring areas have had to take drastic measures like keeping there house doors & windows closed during most of the day and it hampers the sleeping hours till late in the night which is not good for health. The smoke has taken its toll on the flora and fauna as well. Lot of trees look like dead, Birds have dwindled in number and it wont be long before we start seeing really harmful effects on human beings living in the surrounding areas.
The neighbourhood residents keeping in mind the the extent of pollution in the city have taken to using community garbage disposal system and have limited there usage of generator sets to only emergencies and use more of other back up options like Inverters. They are exploring other possibilities like that of Solar energy panel installation.
I kindly request you to look into the matter with earnest as this has become a very dangerous situation for the neighboring citizens.

The regular verbal reminders are being given to all the incumbent person of the area but there is no positive solution in place.
I had also sent a photograph of Muddy road causality which was printed by Dainik Jagran in it’s edition of August 26, 2010 by the blog name of “Janta Ka Camera”.
The problem has been increased by the contractors who have dig the road about 6 months ago and have not repaired it properly causing the locality inconvenience. It became acme of negligence for our block. Below are the problems which aggravate our thought of happy living.
1.Dig of Road in front of mostly houses of society
2.No drainage system
3.Muddy roads (Causing daily causality)
4.Routine inaction of Sweepers in Area
5.No fogging in the area
6.No cleanliness due to virus danger is on it’s peak.

NEGLIGENCE DONE AT....
A. Contractor dug the entire water pipe line inside the mohallas through JCB instead of hand tools.
B contractor didn't covered the area after digging up and left at the mercy of the god in this rainy season.
C contractor BROKEN UP the running pipe line and not repaired and water is flowing through broken points and flooding the area (as shown in attached pics).
D. On calling and asking them don't give attention
WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU....
A. If you can arrange to do any how (either through contractor or local authority) properly covered the dug area
B If you can arrange any how get repaired broken pipe line ,and stop leaking of water, Because this may further become a cause of epidemics like DENGUE and MALARIA.in the area.

.i have loads of kids in my area who have their exams going but due to ganesh chaturthi local people have put loud speakers everywhere which makes our life miserable completely.It has been played twenty-four seven ,small kids cant sleep.we cant study.There has been almost different pandals been set up in just an area of less than one km. If we request them to minimise the volume for sometime the other one starts.
I respect religious feelings but playing filmy songs n dancing n boosing at such places is a big disgrace to humanity and our religious feelings ,which makes the decent people to even move from those roads difficult .local police near by is almost sleeping. Our elders dont want to take any intiative , being a common citizen who is not aware of his rights nor duties they want to be ignorant
but being an educated person i really look upto u to understand the problem of these school kids n students.we have our exams in next week
Its my humble request to get all these stuff removed as soon as possible.prayers come from heart not from this kind of obscene public displays.All this been started n done by few jobless cheap people who had gala time with the money collected through charity which some people are even forced to give.What is happening here is not for religion its just to create nuisance.
kindly take effective steps at the earliest because delayed actions wont help these kids who have their exams on head and make Indians believe in our system.If efforts will be made then we students can make our elders also more responsible and aware of our duties ,rights and moreever believe diffrence can be made if we make an effort.

.i have loads of kids in my area who have their exams going but due to ganesh chaturthi local people have put loud speakers everywhere which makes our life miserable completely.It has been played twenty-four seven ,small kids cant sleep.we cant study.There has been almost different pandals been set up in just an area of less than one km. If we request them to minimise the volume for sometime the other one starts.
I respect religious feelings but playing filmy songs n dancing n boosing at such places is a big disgrace to humanity and our religious feelings ,which makes the decent people to even move from those roads difficult .local police near by is almost sleeping. The mistake could be understood if there are so many other examples in the same are but i got surprised when i heard that only our details is missing
in the respective voter list. I don't know whether its a human error or any conspiracy But in both case, please specify the reason and take the action
